Judge's Remarks
Kennedy – I think it a fantastic use of controlled color palette. I’m always a big fan of people who use reduced color palette to a couple of fundamental tones. They’ve carried that theme through this set of photographs extremely well. It reminds me of color Autochrome from the early part of the 20th century. The shots are evocative of at time and place, yet they are timeless at the same time. The color palette is lovely in each of them.
Fong – I originally like this one for first place. I like how the pictures held together so nicely as a triplet. It gave me a feeling of the zest for life, a freedom of life, with the red scarf in the wind, the humor of the clothesline, and the summer feeling of peaches. It said to me, summer is a festive time, a very quaint time, a very quiet time. The color palette kept the package together very well. These were not a set of individual pictures…but a triplet that pulled together as a set.
Komenich – This is a very good example of the art of exclusion. When we usually talk about composition, it’s not what you put into your photos, it’s what you leave out. In this case, it’s leaving out certain colors that may be problematic later. There’s very muted tones, a very consistent color palette, as Tom said earlier. When you’re thinking about your photographs in the field while you’re shooting, ask whether you should leave this read sign out, or leave this red coke can out. Anything you can do, to intensify the feeling that you were feeling, when making the photo.
1st Place 3rd Place

I really like the style of these photos. It reminds me of summer in the countryside.
