Announces the Winners of Scenes of Summer Photo Contest
Local Photojournalist Wins Contest Judged By Pulitzer Winner Photographer and Prestigious Photo Editors
Palo Alto, Calif. - October 10, 2009 – WeArePhotographers.com LLC and Keeble and Shuchat today announced the winners of their first photography competition, called “Scenes of Summer,” at an awards ceremony held at Keeble and Shuchat Photography in Palo Alto, California. Local photojournalist Mike Kepka of the San Francisco Chronicle won the first prize worth $1,500 in merchandise from Keeble and Shuchat. Second prize went to Martha Schuster, a professional photographer in Orange County, California and third prize went to Neal Lauran, a professional photographer and staff photographer at the Columbus Dispatch in Ohio. Also selected were five honorable mentions.
Winners were selected from more than one hundred entrants submitted to the wearephotographers.com web site, an online social networking community for professional and enthusiast photographers. Entries were judged by the award-winning photography experts on wearephotographers.com Council of Photographers, which include a Pulitzer Prize Photography judge, several Pulitzer Prize winners, a leading sports photographer whose pictures are in the Baseball and Football Halls of Fame, and a former photography editor of National Geographic magazine.
“I was extremely impressed with the quality of many of the entries. The judging was quite difficult with many very impressive individual pictures, but that wasn’t enough,” said Gary Fong, Chief Photography Officer of WeArePhotographers.com. “In the end, it was the photographer’s eye at creating an interesting thematic portfolio that determined the winners.”
Sponsored by Keeble and Shuchat Photography, Northern California’s Premier Digital Imaging Store, the “Scenes of Summer” photography contest challenged our users to deliver not one, but three compelling photographs in a mini-portfolio that illustrates the themes of summer.
